1:1 Coaching – Our qualified BCU coaches can tailor a specific package to suit your needs, whether you want to learn to roll, or want to try a new discipline such as Canadian Canoeing, River Kayaking or Sea Kayaking.

Introduction to White Water Course

This is a great 1 day course for those wanting to make the transition from flat water kayaking, to moving water. Using the grade I/II section of the River Barle, you will be taught a range of skills and techniques by a qualified BCU kayak coach.

Course content includes:

  • Equipment, clothing and safety
  • Use of high/low brace support strokes
  • Ferry gliding
  • Breaking in/out of the flow
  • Reading white water
  • Running rapids
  • How to deal with a swim on moving water

Ratios: 1:4

Intermediate White Water Course

An ‘improvers course’ for those who have experienced white water kayaking, and want to move their kayaking to the next level.

Improve your technique, learn new skills and white water tactics on grade II moving water.

 

Course content includes:

  • Efficient paddling
  • moving boat forwards, reverse, sideways on the move
  • Breaking in/out
  • Ferry gliding (forward & reverse)
  • Surfing waves
  • ‘S’ turns
  • Kayak rolling (flat and moving water)
  • Use of tape & karabiner
  • Throwline use
  • Capsize, swim and rescue procedures

Ratios: 1:4

Location: River Barle (Marsh Bridge – Exebridge) or Dart Loop/Lower Dart
